Are large stocks safer?

A reality check for investors – bigger is not always better. In uncertain times investors go into a defensive posture, which normally means large capitalization issues. The theory is that large companies have a number of advantages over their smaller cousins that equates to much less risk. Large companies are supposed to have more assets to weather economic downturns. Also, large capitalization issues are said to have superior managements and are "better understood" by the Street in terms of valuation and risk. While I am not prepared to make any sweeping statements there are some lessons for investors to remember from the current financial crisis.
